We’ve got Answers
What age can you start in Scouts BSA?
Scouts BSA traditionally starts 6th grade. A Scout can join a Scout troop who has earned the Arrow of Light rank and are at least 10 years old, or have completed the fifth grade and are at least 10, or who are 11, but not yet 18 years old.
Is this the right pack for my school/area?
There are no assigned areas or Troops. You are free to pick any Troop. “Shop around” at beascout.org to find one near you. Factors include distance from your house, does your child have friends in the Troop and chartered organization affiliation. We welcome everyone.
Having friends in scouting is usually the #1 factor in determining whether your child will enjoy being a Scout.
Can my child visit a meeting before we make a commitment?
Yes! When you contact us, we will automatically invite you to our next meeting. You can attend as a guest before making any commitment.
What supplies do I need?
Scouts typically just need a Class A uniform shirt and few patches to start. Handbooks are recommended by our Troop, advancements are tracked digitally and are uploaded directly to the Scouting America national registry. Troop 4480 knows that finances vary from family to family, we have options to borrow camping/hiking equipment. Reach out to the Scoutmaster if you have any concerns about supplies.
Do you have a family scouting program (mixed boys and girls)?
At the BSA level, boys and girls are in different Troops. Our Troop serves boys, there are many local Troops serving girls. Check the beascout.org website to find the Troop that meets your needs.
