Ready, Set, ADVENTURE!

Scouts BSA participate in a variety of activities and adventures as they progress through the ranks.  Besides being fun, these activities offer opportunities for growth, achievement, and family involvement.

Hiking

Exploring the outdoors by hiking is a time tested method for outdoor engagement and physical fitness.  Your Scout will learn about the natural world as they hike and improve their personal strength and stamina.  We do a few hikes in the autumn and spring, these are age appropriate distances and terrain.  Don’t forget the ten essentials!

Camping

We love to go camping, it is one of the core Scouts BSA activities.  It connects the Scout to nature and allows us the opportunity to teach Scouts the skills they need to be safe and helpful in the great outdoors.  We do multiple camping outings every year, including week long summer camp.

“A week of camp life is worth six months of theoretical teaching in the meeting room”

-Lord Baden-Powell

Outdoor Adventures

We try to do other outdoor Scouts BSA activities each year which may include:

Ski trips – We try to take a winter trip to a regional ski area.

Canoe or white-water trips – Usually in northern New England within driving distance.

Treetop Adventure Park – Scouts work on teamwork to accomplish physical and mental challenges.

Klondike Derby

The Klondike Derby is a classic Scouts BSA tradition where each Scout patrol (6-8 Scouts) pulls a sled with their equipment to different stations along a challenge course. Each station will evaluate the Scouts’ skills across a variety of tests including first aid, cooking, pioneering, orienteering, winter survival, and fire building.

These events may also include a winter camping experience where the Scouts can sleep in a snow shelter of their own construction.

Specialty Trips

Special activities

Battleship Cove overnight – Battleship Cove in Fall River MA offers Scout units the opportunity to sleep overnight inside the ship and participate in specially curated activities after the ship has closed to the public.

National Jamboree– Meet thousands of other Scouts at the Summit every four years. Once in a lifetime trip!

Professional Sports

Cub Scout Activities

When available we may take a group outing to a professional sporting event.  These may include baseball, hockey, basketball, football, or lacrosse.  From these events, Scouts can learn elements of sportsmanship, competition, and teamwork.
